Once, Devi Yasodha was entertaining
her little child on lap, singing a lullaby and taking extreme pleasure looking at
his lovely face. Suddenly, the
atmosphere of the entire Gokulam has become alarming with dust storm,
eventually, the complete vision was lost. The
divine child understood the sand storm is not an ordinary one; it was a demon
named Thrinavarththa assigned by Kamsa to kill the children of Gokulam. Immediately the little child of Yasodha
increased his weight, Devi Yasodha was mystified, watching sudden heaviness of
the child on her lap. She has assumed
that the baby has put on weight as he was taking pleasure in her bosom milk for
quite some time. Devi Yasodha kept the
child on the floor, and turn aside from looking for something. Soon, the demon Thrinavarththa in the form of
whirlwind wrapped the child with its powerful wind. The people of the entire Gokulam were screamed in
extreme fear, they could not open eyes because of the dust, and vision became
absolutely zero. Devi Yasodha was
panic-struck, searching for her child, but found he was missing. Devi Yasodha cried out loudly, eventually
lost her consciousness, the cowherds produced shriek out of fear and anxiety. The
demon Thrinavarththa started feeling the extraordinary heaviness of the thing he
has picked up from the courtyard of Nandababa, doubted that he has picked up
some heavy rock instead of the child in a hurry, it has become impossible to
keep a hold on the child due to its extreme heaviness. The little Krishna caught on the neck of
Thrinavarththa and squeezed him, remembered his Mother who was besieged with intense
grief upon the missing of the child, at that moment he took the life out of demon
Thrinavarththa who fell on the ground with a loud thud. The cowherds stunned to hear the loud noise,
saw little Krishna holding tightly on the neck of a cow fallen dead on the
ground. The people of Vraja felt
relieved to see the child safe and sound.
They believed that the child was returned safely with their sincere prayers;
they spoke to each other that their prayers and austerities protected the child
and cheered at the safe return of the child.
Devi Yasodha regained her life, picked up the child affectionately, once
again started feeding her bosom milk and forgot herself in the beautiful smile
of Little Krishna. Nandababa remembered
the words of Vasudeva who pointed out the bad omens he had been witnessing for
the past few days.
The demon Thrinavarththa
represents the human mind and intellect that’s wedged on the silly
matters/Thrina +Avarththa = grass /silly + repetition/. The human mind and intellect have immense
strength of a whirlwind, the constant anxiousness and thoughts over the silly
matters could cause severe consequences like depression and mental
illnesses. The legend of Thrinavarththa
Moksha depicts the victory of little child Krishna over the whirlwind like
demon Thrinavarththa. The mind and
intellect that immersed in the constant contemplation upon the supreme Lord who
resides as a soul could easily win over the whirlwind like a cluster of unwanted
thoughts that causes depression and endless miseries.
